Delaware State hired Derek A. Carter as its new athletics director to oversee the institution’s 18 intercollegiate sports programs. Carter has served since July 2003 as the AD for Bowie State. Before that, he served from 2001-03 as the athletics director at Virginia State. He also had two stints at Virginia Tech – from 2000-01 as director of an athletics-based fellowship program, and from 1994-98 as an assistant AD for spring sports, compliance and student life. Carter is a 1985 graduate of Virginia Tech, where he was a football student-athlete. He also has a master’s in sports management from Tennessee.

Other transactions

Men’s basketball – Georgia Southern named Charlton Young as head coach.

Men’s basketball assistants – Southeast Missouri State selected Jeremy Case as an assistant men’s basketball coach.

Men’s volleyballNam Pahn resigned at Wentworth Institute after two seasons.

Deaths

Ted Keller, a former coach, student-athlete and athletics administrator at Randolph-Macon, died April 10. Keller was an all-conference quarterback and shortstop for the Yellow Jackets. He graduated in 1953.
