Armstrong Atlantic State chose Andrew Carter as its new athletics director. The current vice president of intercollegiate athletics at Newberry succeeds Eddie Aenchbacher, who retired April 1. Carter has been at Newberry since 2002. Before that, he was the AD at Missouri Baptist (his alma mater) in St. Louis from 1997 through 2002. He also was baseball coach there from 1991 through 1999. Carter will assume his new role by July 1, until which time current head women’s soccer coach Eric Faulconer will continue his duties as interim AD.

Other transactions

Football assistants Konstantinos Kosmakos, a four-year starter on the offensive line at Towson, has been named a defensive assistant coach for the school’s football program. Towson also selected Jon Dahlquist as coordinator of football operations. Dahlquist formerly was director of football operations at Connecticut.

Women’s basketball – Loyola (Illinois) hired Eric Simpson as head women’s basketball coach. Simpson becomes the seventh coach of the Loyola women’s program, replacing Shannon Reidy, who guided the Ramblers for the previous four seasons. Simpson began his coaching career at the high school level, then in 2006 he became the director of men’s basketball operations at Loyola under head coach Jim Whitesell, before serving as an assistant with the Loyola women’s basketball team for the previous two seasons. Simpson graduated from Northwestern in 1994, where he was a four-year letter-winner for the Wildcats.
