Albion has hired Jacob DeCola as the first head coach of the Britons’ varsity men’s lacrosse program. Albion has committed to fielding men’s and women’s lacrosse teams that will begin competition next spring. A former head coach at the high school level, DeCola has served as the top assistant coach at Guilford since 2004. He has also served as an assistant coach for the programs at Massachusetts-Dartmouth and Utah. DeCola is a 1995 graduate of Massachusetts-Dartmouth, where he was a four-year starter in goal.

Other transactions

Chancellors and presidents – Howard Payne President Lanny Hall was appointed as president at Hardin-Simmons … Jim Yong Kim, chair of the department of global health and social medicine at Harvard Medical School, will assume the presidency at Dartmouth July 1 … Coker selected Robert L. Wyatt, formerly a dean at Drury, as president.

Assistant athletics directorsDavid Flores was selected as the assistant athletics director for academics and director of the athletics academic center at Texas State.

Men’s basketballSean Miller, who compiled a 120-47 record in five seasons at Xavier, left to become the head coach at Arizona. Miller takes over a program that had been led by longtime coach Lute Olson, who took a leave of absence in the 2007-08 season and then retired, citing health reasons. Russ Pennell took over as interim coach. Miller’s 2008-09 Xavier squad went 27-8 and made it to the East Regional semifinals before falling to Pittsburgh. He formerly was an assistant to Arizona State coach Herb Sendek and a lead assistant to Thad Matta for three seasons at Xavier before taking over when Matta left in 2004 … Memphis hired assistant Josh Pastner as head coach to replace John Calipari, who left for Kentucky. Pastner came to Memphis as an assistant coach before the 2008-09 campaign after a six-year stint as an assistant at Arizona … Butler head coach Brad Stevens agreed to a contract extension that will keep him with the program through the 2015-16 season … Boston University named Villanova associate head coach Patrick Chambers as its next men’s basketball coach. He becomes the 24th head basketball coach in school history … Florida State agreed to terms with men’s basketball coach Leonard Hamilton on a five-year contract … Washington State named Ken Bone men’s basketball coach.

Women’s basketball – Loyola (Illinois) named Eric Simpson head women’s basketball coach … Southern Illinois coach Dana Eikenberg resigned.

Deaths

Drexel President Constantine N. Papadakis died April 5 of pulmonary complications, just days after announcing he would take a medical leave of absence to fight lung cancer. He was 63. Papadakis served as president of Drexel for 14 years,
