Naveen Boppana named assistant director of athletics for sports information at Texas Woman’s University. He has been manager of sports information and media services for the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics and served in sports information positions at Holy Cross, St. Edward’s and Kansas State.

Women’s basketballJill Thomas named head coach at Pfeiffer, where she has been interim head coach

Football assistantSam Petitto returned to the staff at Southeastern Louisiana after serving last season as a graduate assistant coach at Alabama.

Women’s soccer assistantDanielle Dietrich named assistant coach at Youngstown State. The former Ohio State standout has been on the staff at Goucher for the last two years.

Deaths

Duane “Moose” Woltzen, who became the first college basketball coach in the state of Wisconsin to win 500 games when he achieved the milestone at Lakeland in 1985, died March 6 in Port Washington, Wisconsin. He was 75. In addition to coaching men’s basketball, Woltzen served as athletics director during a tenure with the school that ran from 1965 to 1988 … Joe Gomez, head wrestling coach at Centenary (New Jersey) from 1996 through 2001, died March 3 … Jim Tillman, a high-scoring all-American center who helped lead Loyola (Illinois) to two NCAA tournament appearances during the 1960s, died March 4 at age 62.
