Clark (Massachusetts) named Heather Warren an assistant softball coach. Warren graduated from Clark in 2008 and owns school records in home runs, total bases and slugging percentage. She holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology.

Other transactions

President – Lanny Hall, president at Howard Payne since 2003, selected as president at Hardin-Simmons, where he previously served in that post during the 1990s.

Coaches

Men’s basketball – Richmond extended Chris Mooney’s contract.

Women’s basketball – Michael Shafer signed a contract extension with Richmond … Jay Sparks resigned at Columbus State.

Football – Texas-San Antonio hired Larry Coker for the school’s first team. The Roadrunners will play their first season in 2011. Coker left Miami (Florida) in 2006 and has worked in broadcasting the past several years … Adam Fuller resigned at Assumption.

Football assistants – Temple named Randy Melvin defensive line coach … Jared Ambrose appointed tight ends coach at Towson after two seasons as a graduate assistant coach at Delaware.

Women’s soccerKris Anderson appointed head coach at Rutgers-Camden after six seasons as an assistant at Arcadia.

Conferences

The Southeastern Conference extended Commissioner Mike Slive’s contract through July 31, 2012. Since his arrival in 2002, Slive helped create the SEC Academic Consortium and brokered a landmark broadcast-rights deal with CBS and ESPN.

Deaths

Former Austin Peay State men’s basketball coach Lake Kelly died March 5 after complications from kidney stone surgery. He was 75. Kelly left the Governors in 1990, returning to high school coaching, teaching and administration. He retired recently.
