The West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference has appointed Billy Alton as the league’s supervisor of football officials. Alton previously served on the coaching staffs at West Virginia Wesleyan, California (Pennsylvania), Bethany (West Virginia), Lenoir-Rhyne, Louisville and West Virginia. He also spent a season as the interim head coach at UTEP. Alton has been a technical advisor to WVIAC football officials for the past four seasons and worked as an on-field official in the Southern and Big South Conferences. He has an undergraduate degree from West Virginia Wesleyan and a master’s from California (Pennsylvania).

Other transactions

Athletics directors – West Georgia named Daryl Dickey as interim athletics director.

Assistant athletics directors – UCF hired Maura Murphy as the assistant athletics director for development. Murphy will oversee the Golden Knights Club and assist with annual and major-gift fund-raising efforts. She joined the UCF athletics staff after serving in a similar capacity at Ohio.

Coaches

Men’s and women’s soccer – Central Michigan named Tom Anagnost as head women’s coach … Haverford men’s coach Joe Amorim retired … Former Olympian and MLS standout Clint Peay was named the sixth coach in Richmond men’s soccer history. Peay comes to Richmond after stints as an assistant men’s coach at George Mason, Davidson and Georgetown … UMKC head men’s soccer coach Rick Benben signed a five-year contract extension.
