Louisville hired Florida defensive coordinator Charlie Strong to lead its football program. Strong will replace Steve Kragthorpe, who was released last month after three years with the Cardinals. Strong, with Florida since 2003, also has coaching experience at South Carolina, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, Southern Illinois and Texas A&M. He holds degrees from Central Arkansas, Henderson State and Florida.

Other transactions

Athletics director – Bradley selected Michael Cross, executive associate athletics director at Princeton. He will join the department January 1. Before his 10 years at Princeton, Cross worked in athletics administration/compliance at Michigan. He also was an assistant dean of students and assistant basketball coach at Buffalo, his alma mater.

Assistant athletics directors – Florida International hired Paul Dodson to serve as assistant athletics director for media relations.  He served in a similar position at Delaware State and also spent time as assistant sports information director at South Florida … Kentucky State tabbed Harry O. Stinson to oversee compliance, serve as a game administrator and act as a liaison for boosters. Stinson previously worked at the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Coaches

Men’s basketball assistant – Fordham hired Joe DeSantis. DeSantis was most recently head coach at Quinnipiac, where he coached Fordham head coach Jared Grasso.  DeSantis was also previously an assistant at Fairfield, Duquesne, Pittsburgh and St. John’s (New York).

Football – Pittsburg State promoted Tim Beck, who served for 22 years as an assistant. He replaces Chuck Broyles, who retired December 2. A graduate of Pittsburg State, Beck served as offensive coordinator for the last 16 years … Akron tabbed Notre Dame assistant head coach Rob Ianello. He had been with the Irish in various positions since 2005. He also coached at Wisconsin and Arizona.

Football assistant – Mike Breske resigned as defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach at North Dakota State.

Men’s and women’s lacrosse assistant – Rosemont hired Brian O’Doherty for its women’s program. O’Doherty works as an admissions counselor at Rosemont and is a member of the Wilmington Woodpeckers, a competitive men’s lacrosse league, and officiates football and men’s lacrosse games.

Staff

Sports information – Florida International hired Mat Ratner to be media relations coordinator. Ratner spent the last year in media relations for the Miami Dolphins. He also spent four years at South Florida.
