San Jose State football coach Dick Tomey announced his retirement from coaching, effective after the Spartans’ final regular-season game December 5 against Louisiana Tech. Tomey, 71 and the current president of the 10,000-plus member American Football Coaches Association, is finishing his fifth season as the San Jose State head coach, 29th overall as a major college head coach and 46th in the coaching profession.

Football – Jerry Glanville resigned as head coach of the Portland State Vikings after three seasons during which the Vikings were 9-24. Glanville was hired by the Vikings in 2007 after two seasons as defensive coordinator at Hawaii under June Jones. Before that, Glanville was head coach of the Houston Oilers from 1986-89 and the Atlanta Falcons from 1990-93.

Softball assistants – Felician hired David Majewski and Victoria Berardi as assistants. Majewski joins Felician after 10 years as the head coach of St. Dominic Academy in Jersey City. Berardi also enters her first collegiate coaching position, directly off of a successful playing career at Bloomfield College.
