Forest Evashevski, former Michigan football star who coached Iowa to two Rose Bowl victories in the 1950s, died October 30 at the age of 91. Evashevski, captain of Michigan’s 1940 team, was hired at Iowa in 1952 and by 1956 took the Hawkeyes to the Rose Bowl where the beat Oregon State, 35-19. They beat California there two years later, 38-12. Evashevski won 52 games at Iowa, where he coached until 1960. He also led the team to three Big Ten championships. Evashevski was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2000.

Men’s basketball – Medgar Evers hired Chris Pursoo as its head men’s basketball coach. Pursoo has been at the high school level for 13 years.
