Canisius appointed John J. Hurley as president. Hurley, a 1978 alumnus who currently serves as the college’s executive vice president and vice president for college relations, will be the first lay president in Canisius’ 140-year history. Hurley will assume his new duties July 1, 2010. He will succeed the Rev. Vincent M. Cooke, who will retire after a 17-year presidency.

Other transactions

Presidents and chancellorsRichard H. Herman resigned as chancellor at Illinois. He will advise the university on math and science education issues before returning to the faculty later. Stanley O. Ikenberry, who was appointed earlier to replace B. Joseph White as president of the University of Illinois system, and Interim Provost Robert Easter will lead the Urbana-Champaign campus temporarily (school officials said an interim chancellor will not be hired).

Coaches

Men’s and women’s tennis – Ball State released 20-year women’s tennis coach Kathy BullJarod Camerota is the new men’s and women’s head tennis coach at Mars Hill. Camerota coached for two years at Georgia State.
