Danielle Donehew, executive vice president for the WNBA’s Atlanta Dream, has been named associate commissioner for women’s basketball at the Big East Conference. Donehew, a four-year letter-winner in basketball at Georgia Tech, worked previously at Tennessee as an assistant AD for basketball operations.

Other transactions

Directors of athletics – Fontbonne’s Lee McKinney, who has served the university for 23 years, will retire as athletics director in June but will continue coaching men’s basketball.

Associate directors of athletics – Pacific announced that Jim Dugoni is returning as associate AD for development. A 1986 Pacific alum and 14-year employee of the university, Dugoni moved across campus in 2006 after 10 years with athletics to direct the school’s annual giving staff.

Coaches

Baseball – Texas-Arlington baseball coach Darin Thomas received a two-year contract extension through 2012-13.

Men’s and women’s swimming and diving – Towson extended women’s swimming and diving coach Pat Mead’s contract through 2011-12.

Deaths

Connecticut cornerback Jasper Howard, 20, was stabbed to death early Sunday after an on-campus dance, hours after the team’s homecoming victory over Louisville. Howard and a second person were stabbed during a fight after someone pulled a fire alarm during a dance at the school’s student union, police said.
