The Patriot League extended Carolyn Schlie Femovich’s contract through June 2013. Femovich became executive director of the league in 1999, and is credited with raising the conference’s profile through presidential outreach, increased competitiveness of key sports and enhancements to the multi-media and television package.

Other transactions

Athletics director – TCU athletics director Danny Morrison accepted a job as team president of the Carolina Panthers. A former Southern Conference commissioner, Morrison also previously worked at Wofford, where the Panthers once held training camp. Morrison will remain at TCU through September. Morrison al

Associate athletics directorsAnn Petracco retired from Fairleigh Dickinson-Florham. She will remain as field hockey coach through the 2009 season. Jenn Noon will replace Petracco as associate athletics director immediately and as head field hockey coach after this season … Oneonta State hired Brian Jester. Jester had been director of baseball operations at Georgia since 2003.

Coaches

Baseball – Alabama’s Jim Wells retired as the winningest coach in Crimson Tide history, posting a 625-322 record in 15 seasons. Assistant Mitch Gaspard was named head coach.

Men’s basketball – Denver extended Joe Scott’s contract through the 2014-15 season. Terms were not disclosed.

Men’s basketball assistant – Penn tabbed former student-athlete Jerome Allen. Allen spent two years in the NBA and several seasons in Europe.

Women’s basketball – Fairleigh Dickinson-Florham hired Marc Mitchell, who has been an assistant at Caldwell College and New Jersey City University.

Women’s basketball assistants – Albany hired Phil Collins as an assistant and named Jessica Arnold director of women’s basketball operations.

Men’s and women’s cross country – Morehead State hired Tommy Barksdale to lead the cross country and track and field teams. Barksdale was an assistant at Troy and also worked at Montevallo. He was a student-athlete at Mississippi State.

Men’s and women’s tennis – Holy Cross promoted Evan Gaudreau to lead its men’s program. He has been a private tennis coach for several years.

Men’s and women’s tennis assistants - Illinois named Marcos Asse assistant coach of the men’s team. Asse spent the last four seasons at William and Mary. Asse was a student-athlete at Florida.

Men’s and women’s track and field – Wisconskin-OshKosh named Pat Ebel interim head coach of the women’s program. Ebel replaces Deb Vercauteren, who stepped down August 14 after earning 14 NCAA titles in 28 seasons. Ebel has 20 years of track and field coaching experience, including several years at Wisconsin-Whitewater.

Men’s and women’s track and field assistants – Stephen F. Austin named Lacee´ Carmon horizontal jumps coach.
