Joan Bonvicini was named head coach of Seattle’s women’s basketball team. Bonvicini will lead the team in its first full season in Division I. Bonvicini, who previously coached at Arizona and Long Beach State, brings a 612-294 (.676) record to the university and is 26th on the NCAA all-time wins list for women’s college basketball at all levels. She became the 18th coach in NCAA Division I women’s basketball history to reach the 600-win mark in February 2007.

Other transactions

Assistant athletics directors – DePaul announced Blair Banwart as an assistant director of athletics facilities and Erin McGovern as assistant director of business and financial affairs. Dave Corzine, who was director of basketball operations with the men’s basketball program during the 2008-09 season, is now the assistant to the athletics director for community outreach … Georgia Southwestern State named Christie Ward as assistant athletics director for compliance … Patrick Hairston, formally of the NCAA championships staff, has been named assistant athletics director for compliance at West Virginia.

Coaches

Baseball assistants – Whitman named Mark Michaud Jr. as pitching coach.

 

Women’s basketball – Matt Phifer hired as women’s basketball coach at Hilbert.

Women’s basketball assistants – San Francisco State named Blair Hardiek as an assistant coach for the women’s basketball program.

 

Men’s and women’s golf – Marty Burke was named men’s golf coach at Bentley.

Men’s and women’s ice hockey assistants – Vermont named Grant Kimball associate head coach of women’s hockey.

 

Men’s and women’s lacrosse – Merrimack announced that Mike Morgan has been elevated to full-time men’s lacrosse coach.

Men’s and women’s lacrosse assistants – Mariah Casserly has been named assistant women’s lacrosse coach at Slippery Rock.

Men’s and women’s soccer – John Jay announced Chris Weeks as men’s soccer coach.

Men’s and women’s soccer assistants – Vermont promoted Kristi Lefebvre to full-time assistant women’s soccer coach.

 

Softball – Coppin State hired Bob Ullman as the school’s softball coach … Sean Cotter was named coach at Massachusetts-Lowell.

Men’s and women’s tennis – Chris Young has been named the women’s tennis coach at Oklahoma State … Kenny Doyle has been named coach of the Tennessee Tech men’s and women’s tennis teams.

Men’s and women’s volleyball – Taisiya Zuyeva was named women’s volleyball coach at Medgar Evers … Michigan Tech hired Orlando Gonzalez as women’s volleyball coach … Bridgeport hired Leo Uzcategui to coach the Purple Knights’ women’s volleyball program. 

Staff

Athletic trainers – Wayne State (Michigan) announced Natalie Herter and Amanda Riesterer as assistant athletic trainers.

Compliance – Katie Zingg has been selected as a compliance specialist at Southern Illinois-Edwardsville.

Deaths

Don Oliver, 83, sports information director at Baylor from 1947-50 and again from 1970-77, died August 1.
