New Orleans Athletics Director Jim Miller has announced he will retire, effective December 31, and will immediately reduce his day-to-day management of the athletics department. Associate Athletics Director Mike Bujol has been named interim athletics director and will assume administrative responsibilities.

Other transactions

Associate athletics directors – Georgia State hired Todd Reeser as senior associate director of athletics for development.

Assistant athletics directors – John Portland has been named assistant athletics director for facilities, operations and events at Georgia State … Cal State East Bay hired Dawn Ellerbe to fill the position of assistant athletics director for marketing and promotions. … Bay Path hired Jessica Huntley as assistant director of athletics.  

Coaches

Women’s basketball – Matt Phifer, has been named women’s basketball coach at Hilbert.

Women’s basketball assistants – Newberry selected John Lesaine as an assistant coach.

Men’s and women’s soccer assistants – Bill Armstrong has been named assistant women’s soccer coach at Alverno.

Men’s and women’s swimming – Brooklyn announced Eric Mitchell as men’s and women’s swimming coach.

Men’s and women’s tennis – Cliff Myers, the coach of the Lebanon Valley men’s and women’s tennis teams and winner of seven conference titles and 300 matches in 16 seasons, has announced his retirement, effective immediately. The school promoted Joy Graeff as women’s coach.

Men’s and women’s volleyball assistants – Elmhurst hired Kris Russell to be assistant coach on the women’s volleyball staff.

Deaths

Lake Forest women’s ice hockey player Ryann McCarthy died July 28. McCarthy played for the Foresters from 2006-08 and is the program’s career leader in save percentage, goals-against average, and winning percentage. She recorded two of the top four single-game save totals in team history late in the 2006-07 season and ranked seventh in the nation in save percentage that year.
