The Presidents’ Athletic Conference chose Bill Ek as supervisor of men's basketball officiating. Ek also assigns for the Ohio Athletic Conference, American Mideast Conference (NAIA), Ohio Community College Athletic Conference and the Ohio Regional Campuses. In more than 20 years of collegiate experience, Ek has earned multiple NCAA Division III regional assignments and a 2000 Final Four assignment in addition to working numerous Mid-American Conference postseason assignments and several Division III and NAIA championship games.

Other transactions

Associate athletics directorKosha Irby was named as senior associate athletics director for external affairs at Georgia State. Irby has been associate athletics director for external operations at Saint Louis.

Men’s and women’s cross country – Eastern Mennonite appointed Matt Dougherty as head men’s and women’s cross country and track and field coach after the college combined the two programs into one. Most recently an assistant coach at Houghton, Dougherty succeeds Lester Zook, who resigned as head cross country coach after 20 seasons.

Football assistants –Chicago added Kyle Sweeney as defensive coordinator and secondary coach and Dan Gritti as linebackers and special teams coach.

Men’s and women’s soccerJason Good was appointed head women’s soccer coach at Eastern Mennonite. A former Eastern Mennonite soccer student-athlete, Good also will retain his part-time responsibilities in the admissions office.

Men’s and women’s soccer assistant – Newberry hired Ashleigh Mayer as an assistant women’s soccer coach. Mayer is a 2009 Newberry graduate and was a member of the women’s soccer squad from 2005-08.

SoftballRick Krasny was chosen as head softball coach at Felician to replace Kathy Hill, who resigned after eight years. Krasny, who returns to collegiate coaching following a two-year layoff, compiled a 124-131-2 record and was twice named CACC coach of the year as head coach at Dominican (New York) from 2001-07.

Men’s and women’s swimming and diving assistant – Washington U. in St. Louis appointed Nicole Kaupp as an assistant swimming and diving coach.

Staff

Compliance – Miami (Florida) promoted Jamie Israel to director of compliance and selected Karen Kelly, previously the director of compliance at Florida Atlantic, as an assistant compliance director.

Sports information – James De Boer was hired as sports information director at Eastern Mennonite.

Deaths

Former college football coach and longtime Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Johnson died July 28 after a battle with melanoma skin cancer. He was 68. Johnson formerly was head coach at Missouri Southern in 1967 and also coached at Drake, Indiana and Notre Dame. Johnson joined the NFL Eagles after serving as linebackers coach for the Seattle Seahawks in 1998 and also completed stints with the USFL as well as the NFL St. Louis/Phoenix/Arizona Cardinals and Indianapolis Colts … East Tennessee men’s basketball student-athlete Seth Coy died July 29 after a car accident. He was 19. Coy, an Indiana native, played 24 games as a freshman, averaging 2.0 rebounds and 2.9 points a game.
