Jason Fast was named head men’s and women’s cross country and track and field coach at Lawrence. Since January 2006, Fast has been an assistant cross country and track coach at his alma mater, Wisconsin-Oshkosh, where he helped the Titans capture the 2009 men’s indoor and outdoor NCAA Division III championships. He also was a member of Wisconsin-Oshkosh’s 2002 national championship team and is one of only four Titan runners to be part of three Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship teams.

Other transactions

Director of athleticsBrian Faison agreed to a contract extension through June 2012 as athletics director at North Dakota.

Assistant director of athleticsDaniel Feig was named as assistant director of athletics for compliance at Arkansas State. He takes over for Nikki Lee, who became the compliance director at Auburn. For the past seven years, Feig, a former soccer student-athlete at Birmingham-Southern, has been an attorney in Birmingham, where he also coached club and high school soccer.

Women’s basketball assistant – Loyola (Illinois) hired LaToya Howell as an assistant coach. For the past three years, Howell has been an assistant coach at Texas A&M-Commerce.

Baseball assistantMatt Kruse was added as an assistant baseball coach at Mount Olive. Kruse, who will serve as the Trojans’ pitching coach, comes to Mount Olive from Western Oklahoma State College, which compiled a 105-24 record and made back-to-back appearances in the National Junior College Athletic Association World Series in his two years at the school.

Men’s basketball assistantsEvans Davis was chosen as assistant men’s basketball coach and men’s cross country coach at Armstrong Atlantic State … Brock Veltri resigned after five seasons as head assistant men’s basketball coach at Seattle Pacific to become men’s assistant basketball coach and sports information director at Carroll College in Montana … North Carolina Central appointed Robert Brickey as an assistant men’s coach. Brickey most recently finished a one-year stint as assistant director of women’s basketball operations at Duke and formerly was head men’s basketball coach at Shaw from 2005-08.

Football assistants – Nicholls State promoted linebackers coach Jeremy Atwell to defensive coordinator and selected Kevin Carey as offensive line coach, Dustin Gisclair as defensive line coach and Rashad Watson as defensive backs coach.

Men’s and women’s ice hockey assistantsGrant Potulny was named as an assistant men’s ice hockey coach and Justin Johnson was appointed as a volunteer men's ice hockey goalie coach at Minnesota.

Men’s and women’s soccerNick Hillary was tapped as head men’s soccer coach at Clarkson.

Men’s and women’s track and field assistant – Samford chose Diego Flaquer as assistant men’s and women’s track and field coach. Most recently, Flaquer, who will work with sprinters, hurdlers and assistant with multi-event athletes, was administrative assistant for the track and field program at Auburn.
