St. Francis (New York) named Igor Samardzija to lead its men’s water polo’s program. Samardzija has spent years in both the European and American water polo communities. He has coached the men’s and women’s club teams at Columbia, and was an assistant coach at Tent (Obrenovac, Serbia). He played for both Tent and Red Star (Belgrade, Serbia). Samardzija replaces Carl Quigley, who resigned this past winter after coaching the Terriers for 34 years.

Other transactions

Athletics directors – Providence extended Athletics Director Bob Driscoll’s contract through 2015-16.

Coaches

Baseball Belmont Abbey selected Scott Brickman as head baseball coach. Brickman was an as assistant coach at Northern Iowa for two seasons.

Men’s basketball – Providence signed head coach Keno Davis through the 2015-16 season.

Men’s basketball assistants – Virginia State added Donald Payton as an assistant coach. Payton formerly was an assistant at Barton and Lock Haven.

Women’s basketball – Fayetteville State named Eva Patterson-Heath as its 12th head coach since the program’s inception in 1940. She has coached at the high school level for the last 13 years.

Men’s and women’s golf – Washington State hired Kelli Kamimura as its head women’s coach. She most recently was an associate women’s golf coach at Pepperdine.

Men’s and women’s lacrosseBrian Voelker has been named the head coach of the Drexel men’s lacrosse team. Voelker was the head coach at Pennsylvania for the past seven seasons … Dominican (New York) hired Manny Rapkin as the Chargers’ head men’s lacrosse coach.  Rapkin spent last season as the interim coach after Nick Ballou resigned.

Men’s and women’s soccer – Belmont Abbey women’s soccer coach Erik Imler will resign August 2 to devote more time to his family and business pursuits. Erik Ozimek, who served as coach with Imler, has been appointed interim head coach … Chris Bergmann was selected as the men’s soccer coach at Lake Forest. Bergmann replaces Derek Niepomnik, who resigned.

Men’s and women’s tennis – Roger Williams men’s and women’s coach Chris O’Brien resigned.

Men’s and women’s volleyballSteve Smith, former head women’s coach at Fort Hays State, has been hired as head women’s coach at Montana State Billings. He replaces Dana Cordova, who resigned.

Wrestling – Chattanooga hired alumnus Heath Eslinger as the 11th head coach of the Mocs wrestling program.

Conferences

The Colonial States Athletic Conference hired Jennifer Dubow as assistant commissioner and Amanda Shevchuk as assistant to the commissioner. Dubow had been the associate director of the Presidents’ Athletic Conference in 2008-09, a position obtained through the NCAA Division III Ethnic Minority and Women’s Internship Grant program.
