Dale Bahr has been named the new head coach of both the men’s and women’s track and field programs and the men’s and women’s cross country programs at Gustavus Adolphus. Bahr, a 1995 graduate of Minnesota State Mankato, is replacing Tom Thorkelson as the men’s and women’s track and field coach, and Jed Friedrich as the men’s and women’s cross country coach. Thorkelson retired in May after serving as the track and field coach for the past 10 years, while Friedrich, who has been the head cross country coach as well as the head Nordic skiing coach for the past five years, will now concentrate his full energies on further enhancing the men’s and women’s Nordic ski programs.

Other transactions

Assistant athletics directors – Indiana promoted Kelly Noonan to assistant AD for academic and student development services. Noonan has been at Indiana since 2006. She previously worked at Missouri while completing a master’s degree in student affairs administration.

Coaches

Baseball – Georgia State head coach Greg Frady has been awarded a five-year contract.

Gymnastics Gretchen Goerlitz, a former graduate assistant gymnastics coach at Texas Woman’s, has been named the head women’s gymnastics coach at Centenary (Louisiana).

Women’s rowing assistants – Former Mary Washington head coach Philip Schmehl was hired as an assistant at Marietta.

Softball assistants – Delaware added Jessica Vonch as pitching coach and recruiting assistant. Vonch had been the pitching coach at the Colorado School of Mines.

Men’s and women’s tennis – Newberry elevated Jim Greene to full-time head men’s and women’s tennis coach.

Staff

Academic advisors – Indiana appointed Amanda Fark, Ed Sears and Michael Greene as athletics academic advisors.

Conferences

Summit League Commissioner Tom Douple’s contract was extended through 2013. Douple is entering his fifth year as league commissioner and serves on the NCAA Leadership Council and as a member on the NCAA Committee on Athletics Certification.
