John T. Casteen III announced his retirement as president at Virginia, where he has served in the post since 1990. Casteen, who represented the Atlantic Coast Conference on the Division I Board of Directors and was a member of the NCAA Executive Committee, earlier served as president at Connecticut.

Other transactions

President Elsa A. Murano resigned at Texas A&M, where she had served as president since January 2008. She plans to return to the faculty at the university.

Coaches

Women’s basketballKevin McMillan hired as head coach at Tennessee-Martin. He is a former assistant at Middle Tennessee who also led Gibson County (Tennessee) High School to a state title.

LacrosseAndrew Towers promoted to head men’s coach at Dartmouth. He was an assistant at Brown and Yale before joining the Big Green staff five seasons ago … Charlie Burch joined the staff as men’s assistant at University of New England. He coached for 24 seasons at the high school level, most recently in Kennebunk, Maine.

TennisTim Crosby retired as men’s and women’s head coach at Saint Leo, where he will remain as an associate professor of physical education. Crosby, who played baseball at the school, coached men at Saint Leo for 39 years and women for 37 years.

Staff

Equipment Jack Moriarty announced his retirement as equipment manager at Holy Cross, effective June 30. He leaves the position after 37 years, during which he also served as athletic trainer until 1994.

Deaths

Dennis Collins, executive director of the North Coast Athletic Conference since its establishment in 1984, died June 14 of a heart attack in Bay Village, Ohio … Brenda Weare, commissioner of the Northeast Conference since 2006 and a recent member of the Division I Leadership Council, died June 13 after a lengthy battle with synovial cell sarcoma, a rare form of cancer. She was 51. She also served as a compliance services assistant in the NCAA national office and held administrative posts with the Great Midwest Conference and Conference USA before accepting the Northeast Conference post.
