Brenda Edmond-Square, former athletics director at Clark Atlanta and interim AD at Southern University, named interim AD at Alcorn State, where she has been chief of staff and executive assistant to the president. She has served on the Division I Championships/Competition Cabinet and on the Division II Championships Committee during her previous stints in athletics administration. She also served on the Division II Community Advisory Group.

Coaches

LacrosseEric Petrullo promoted to head men’s coach at Molloy, where he was an assistant last season. He was a member of New York Institute of Technology’s 1997 Division II championships team.

Soccer Tony Economopoulos selected as head women’s coach at Georgia Southwestern after two years as an assistant at Oklahoma State … Whitney Medlen named assistant women’s coach at Birmingham-Southern … Kellie Evans joined the staff at Illinois State as women’s assistant coach.

Softball Kenny Terry resigned after three years as head coach at Belmont Abbey to become assistant coach at West Texas A&M.

Swimming Lauren O’Donnell named head women’s coach at Juniata after two years as an assistant at New Paltz State. She was an all-American swimmer at The College of New Jersey.

Track and fieldMike Johnson appointed head men’s coach at Wisconsin-Whitewater, his alma mater, where he was on the staff from 2005 until moving last season to serve as men’s and women’s track and field/cross country assistant at Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

Volleyball Andy Read named interim head men’s coach at Long Beach State, stepping in for Andy Knipe, who will serve as USA National Team head coach through the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. Read, a former head coach at UC Irvine, has assisted Knipe for the past 13 seasons.

 

Conferences

Nido R. Qubein, president at High Point, elected president of the Big South Conference Council of Chief Executive Officers. Penelope W. Kyle of Radford will serve as vice president and Anne Ponder of UNC Asheville will serve as secretary of the league.

 

Deaths

James Adams, retired men’s basketball coach and assistant athletics director at Rhode Island College, died June 1 at age 73. Adams earlier served as an assistant coach at Providence and was a football and basketball student-athlete at the University of Rhode Island … Bob Dukiet, head men’s basketball coach at St. Peter’s, Marquette and Gannon, died May 28 at age 61.
