Newberry added Robin Muller as associate athletics director for compliance and student services. She also was designated as the athletics department’s senior woman administrator. Muller spent seven years as the head women’s basketball coach at Winthrop, where she was selected as the 1996 Big South Conference coach of the year. She also served five years as the director of operations for women’s basketball at South Carolina.

Other transactions

Athletics directors – Norfolk State AD Marty Miller agreed to a four-year contract extension through June 2014.

Coaches

Men’s basketball – Longwood head coach Mike Gillian received a multi-year contract extension … Holy Cross named Sean Kearney as its new head men’s basketball coach, replacing Ralph Willard, who resigned last month. Kearney is a first-time head coach who spent nine years as an associate coach under Mike Brey at Notre Dame.

Women’s basketball – Flagler named Erika Lang-Montgomery as head women’s basketball coach … Mercy head women’s basketball coach Ashlee Kelly resigned to become an assistant coach at Iona.

Women’s basketball assistantsPam Brown was hired as an assistant at Winthrop. Brown, who replaces Jodi Davis, spent the last two years at Miami (Florida) as the coordinator of women’s basketball operations … Illinois added Lisa Cermignano as an assistant coach. Cermignano spent the last three years as a women’s assistant at Vanderbilt.

Football assistants – Newberry named Todd Varn as assistant head coach, Ike Allred as director of football operations, Mitch Hall as defensive line coach, Zach Ellis as running backs coach and Jeremiah Jones as inside linebackers coach.

Men’s and women’s lacrosseKerry Hausdorf has been named head coach of the Queens (New York) women’s lacrosse program. Hausdorf comes to Queens after spending the last two seasons as an assistant coach at American International. She also served in that capacity at Springfield in 2007.

Men’s and women’s track and field – Miami (Ohio) women’s track and cross country coach Rita Arndt-Molis resigned … Art Venegas left UCLA after 10 years as men’s track and field coach. Venegas spent 28 years with the program as an assistant and head coach.

Men’s and women’s volleyball – Ithaca graduate Kathryn Southcott was selected to lead the Concord women’s volleyball program.

Staff

Equipment manager – Newberry appointed Tyler Carter as equipment manager. 

Media relations – Miami (Ohio) named Michael Weisman as assistant director of media relations. Weisman previously served as a media relations intern at Ohio.

Sports information – North Carolina Central hired Reah Nicholson as an assistant SID for volleyball, women’s basketball and softball.

Strength and conditioningDonnie Thompson was hired as a strength and development consultant at Newberry.

Conferences

The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference named Katie Miranto as director of championships and special events, and Tania Kennedy as assistant director of championships. The MAAC also named officers for the coming year. Brian Linnane, president of Loyola (Maryland), will chair the council of presidents, while Fairfield President Jeffrey von Arx will serve as vice chair. Manhattan Athletics Director Bob Byrnes will chair the committee on athletic administration, and Elizabeth Donohue, assistant AD/SWA at Marist, will serve as vice chair. … Eliane Kebbe has been promoted to assistant commissioner at the South Atlantic Conference. Kebbe, who joined the conference in September as director of compliance and external operations, will continue to oversee those areas … The Southern Conference named Jamie Severns as director of multimedia services, Caroline Sanker as championships/operations assistant and JoAnne Cannell as media relations assistant. The league also promoted Jason Yaman to assistant commissioner for media relations and Brandon Neff to assistant commissioner for championships.

Miscellaneous

Gary Huber, Missouri Valley Conference coordinator of soccer officials, has been named director of assessment by the National Intercollegiate Soccer Officials Association and has been appointed to its board of directors. Huber will oversee all aspects of officials’ assessment and training.
