Trev Alberts has been selected as the new director of athletics at Nebraska-Omaha and will assume his duties this month. Alberts, 38, is a former all-American football player at the Nebraska, where he won the Dick Butkus Award as the nation’s top Division I linebacker in 1993. After graduation, he was a first-round draft pick of the Indianapolis Colts in 1994 and played three seasons in the National Football League. He began a national-level sports broadcasting career starting in 1997. He has worked for CNN, ESPN, CBS College Sports Television and CBS Sports.

Presidents and chancellors – Wayne Watson was named president at Chicago State.

Coaches

Baseball – New Jersey City announced that baseball coach Eric Alvarez has resigned. … Southern Mississippi baseball coach Corky Palmer announced that he is retiring as baseball coach at the end of the season.

Men’s and women’s soccer – Bryan Davis has been named the head men’s soccer coach at Wright State.

Men’s and women’s swimming and diving – Saint Leo hired Paul Mangen as the new coach of the men’s and women’s swim teams.

Men’s and women’s soccer assistants – Oakland named Jason Perry as a men’s soccer assistant coach.  

Staff

Bob and Susan Hanson have resigned their positions of director of compliance and associate athletics director, respectively, at Creighton.

Deaths

Robert F. “Bob” Siemen, whose association with the Delaware athletics department as a student-athlete, coach, administrator and fan spanned nearly 70 years, died April 18. He was 87.
