Former Cincinnati President Nancy Zimpher has been hired as the chancellor of the State University of New York system. During Zimpher’s time at Cincinnati, she has served as the Big East’s representative on the NCAA Division I Board of Directors. Before her arrival at Cincinnati in 2003, Zimpher was the chancellor at Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Other transactions

Athletics directors – North Florida named Lee Moon as its director of athletics. Moon has been a senior associate athletics director at UAB since 2006.

Men’s and women’s soccer – Erika True has been announced as the women’s soccer coach at Indiana State after four years as an assistant at Indiana.

Men’s and women’s volleyball – Connie Mettille resigned as the women’s volleyball coach at Winona State, effective at the end of the 2008-09 school year.

Deaths

Former Cal Poly football student-athlete Mel Kaufman died February 7. Kaufman was part of Cal Poly’s 1980 Division II National Championship team. He played eight seasons with the NFL’s Washington Redskins. Kaufman was 50 … Louisiana Tech Hall of Famer Jerry Lovett died recently. As a basketball student-athlete at Louisiana Tech from 1948-52, Lovett scored 1,086 career points. 

Open dates

Shippensburg’s women’s basketball team is seeking participants for its 2009-10 opening tournament on Friday November 20, and Saturday, November 21.
