Two-time State University of New York Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year Stephanie Zweig was named as an assistant coach at her alma mater, Plattsburgh State. Zweig’s responsibilities will include working with Plattsburgh State pitchers. During her tenure as a starting pitcher for the program from 2005-08, the lefty set schools records for appearances in a season (38) and career (126). She also set the single-season mark for earned-run average (1.04), career saves (12) and career winning percentage (.757). She also is tied for first for single-season shutouts with eight and is second on the school's all-time list for games started in a single season (32), career shutouts (19), career innings pitched (564.2), wins in a career (56), career strikeouts (616) and cumulative ERA (1.60).

Associate director of athleticsKristene Kelly was appointed as associate athletics director at Saint Augustine’s. As part of her responsibilities, Kelly, who also will join the college’s faculty in the department of human performance and wellness, will help provide oversight and supervision in the areas of staffing, team travel, planning and academics; developing the budgets and departmental policies; and serving as sports supervisor for men’s basketball, softball, bowling and baseball; and sports information and compliance.

Football – Western Kentucky awarded head coach David Elson with a four-year contract extension through the 2016 season, if the recommendation is approved. Elson, who previously served as an assistant coach for seven seasons with the program and was defensive coordinator for the Hilltoppers’ 2002 FCS national championship team, has compiled a 39-32 mark in six seasons in charge of the program … TCU’s Gary Patterson signed a new contract that will keep at the school through 2014. Patterson is 73-27 in eight seasons at TCU, third all-time for wins at the university.

Men’s lacrosseBrian Dalton was added as a volunteer assistant at St. John’s (New York). Dalton, a 2001 graduate and all-American at Springfield who will work specifically with the Red Storm’s close defensemen, brings four years of experience as the varsity coach of Fox Lane (New York) High School … Former Delaware all-American Alex Smith returned to his alma mater as a volunteer assistant coach. Smith, a 2007 graduate of the school who now plays professionally with Major League Lacrosse’s Rochester Rattlers, established NCAA records for faceoffs won in a season (311 in 2007) and career (1,027), faceoffs attempted in a season (430 in 2007), groundballs in a career (553), and faceoff percentage in a game (1.000, 21 for 21 vs. Manhattan, 2006).

Men’s and women’s track and field – West Chester hired Aaron Keiser as head men’s and women’s head coach. Keiser, who most recently has been an assistant coach at Limestone, takes over for Jason Kilgore, who assumed assistant coaching responsibilities at Lehigh.

Men’s volleyball – Illinois elevated Kevin Hambly to head coach. In replacing the retired Don Hardin, he becomes the seventh head coach in the program’s history and just the third in the last quarter century. Hambly, who earned all-American honors as a player at BYU, has served as assistant coach for the Fighting Illini for the last five years, the first two as a volunteer assistant and the last three as a full-time assistant.

Senior forwards Kerri Hanks of Notre Dame and Marcus Tracy of Wake Forest were named recipients of the 2008 Missouri Athletic Club’s Hermann Trophy, presented to the top female and male players in NCAA Division I soccer.
