Covenant, a provisional Division III member, will compete in the Great South Athletic Conference beginning in 2010-11.

Covenant will become the league’s ninth member and the second new member added by the GSAC this year, joining Salem.

“We are delighted to have Covenant College join the GSAC,” Commissioner Phil Williamson said. “We believe Covenant will be a good fit for the conference and be very competitive in all our conference-sponsored sports.”

The school, located in Lookout Mountain, Georgia, has an enrollment of 1,006 students. It currently sponsors 13 sports – six for men and seven for women – and sponsors all 11 sports in which the GSAC offers championships.

The GSAC, founded in 1999, has members in Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina and Tennessee. Four of the members are women’s institutions.

Covenant is in its first year of provisional membership and currently is scheduled to become an active Division III member in 2013-14.
