Two coaches – including a mentor of six national-championship teams – will be inducted this year into the Division III Wrestling Coaches Hall of Fame.

Wartburg’s Jim Miller, who led the Knights to their sixth Division III Wrestling Championships team title last year, and Lawrence’s Dave Novickis, who has coached 18 NCAA championship qualifiers during his 16 years as head coach, will be inducted March 5 in ceremonies in conjunction with the Division III championships in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Miller, a two-time Division II champion wrestler at Northern Iowa during the early 1970s, became head coach at Wartburg in 1991 after serving eight years as an assistant at UNI. He led the Knights to their first Division III team title in 1996 and is a four-time Division III coach of the year.

Wartburg entered competition over the weekend at the National Wrestling Coaches Association/Cliff Keen National Duals with 36 straight dual-meet wins and a 123-meet win streak against Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponents.

Novickis served as an assistant at Lawrence for three years before taking the reins as head coach in 1994. He led the Vikings to three Midwest Conference team titles before the league discontinued sponsorship of the sport in 1997. He coached Andy Kazik to a 40-0 season and the Division III 184-pound title in 2002.

He is a four-time regional coach of the year and has coached 19 Division III NWCA Scholar All-Americans.

Three former wrestlers also will be honored during the induction ceremonies in Cedar Rapids. Brad Bowman helped lead John Carroll to its only Division III team title with his individual crown at 177 pounds in 1975, Cortland State’s Rick Armstrong won the Division III 158-pound title in 1978, and Mike Fusilli was a Division III heavyweight champion at Ithaca in 1990.
