Hilbert will sponsor varsity men’s and women’s lacrosse programs beginning with the 2010-11 academic year.

The growth of the school’s men’s club program since 2003 was cited by school officials among reasons for sponsoring the sport.

The additions increase the number of varsity sports sponsored by Hilbert to 13. Searches have begun for part-time head coaches for the two squads.

Hilbert is one of three Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference members that will be sponsoring men’s lacrosse during 2010-11. La Roche announced earlier this year that it is adding men’s lacrosse, and Medaille currently sponsors the sport. Hilbert also joins Medaille as the only AMCC members sponsoring women’s lacrosse.

Frostburg State, which sponsors the sport for men and women, is moving in 2010 from the AMCC to the Capital Athletic Conference.
