All three of this year’s videos previewing Division III legislative proposals scheduled for a vote at the 2010 Convention now are available for online viewing.

The videos, which are intended to help delegates prepare for voting during the January 16 business session at the Convention, cover all nine proposals that will be considered in Atlanta.

The third video, posted this week, is about five minutes long. In it, Jeff Myers, NCAA associate director of academic and membership affairs, covers three proposals, which would:

  • Permit a student who was disqualified or suspended for disciplinary reasons from a previously attended school, but who hasn’t participated in intercollegiate athletics or organized competition for at least two years, to be immediately eligible for participation upon transfer to another institution rather than sit out for a year. The proposal is sponsored by the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate and Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conferences.
  • Set the end date of both the fall and spring nontraditional segments five weekdays before the beginning of an institution’s final exams. The proposal is sponsored by the Division III Presidents Council.
  • Amend the Division III philosophy statement to include the expectation that institutional presidents and chancellors have “ultimate responsibility and final authority for the conduct of intercollegiate athletics programs at the institutional, conference and national governance levels.” The proposal, also sponsored by the Presidents Council, is the only one of the nine proposals designated by the Council for a roll-call vote.

Two videos made available online earlier this fall preview the other six proposals scheduled for consideration.
