Athletics directors at St. Lawrence and Trinity (Connecticut) are this year’s recipients of the Eastern College Athletic Conference’s Jostens Administrator of the Year Awards.

Margie Strait, entering her 12th year as athletics director at St. Lawrence, and Richard Hazelton, who has administered Trinity’s athletics program since 1982, will be honored at a luncheon October 6 during the ECAC fall convention and trade show in Hyannis, Massachusetts.

Strait coached tennis and skiing after joining the St. Lawrence athletics staff in 1970. Since becoming athletics director, she has coordinated the addition of seven new teams and been involved in an extensive renovation of the school’s athletics facilities, including a new field house and fitness center and an athletics complex that hosted the 2003 Division III Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

The former Liberty League president has served on the executive committee of the ECAC men’s and women’s hockey league and the ECAC board of directors.

Hazelton coached track and field and assisted with football before becoming athletics director at Trinity, which since 2008 has claimed a Division III baseball title as well as an 11th straight collegiate men’s squash championship. He also oversaw construction of a swimming facility, a squash venue regarded as best in the nation and most recently an on-campus ice hockey rink.

His extensive committee service includes terms on the NCAA Football Rules Committee and Committee on Competitive Safeguards and Medical Aspects of Sports. He also is a two-time president of the New England Small College Athletic Conference.
