Following is a summary of Division III news published March 30-April 2.

•         The NCAA Division III Softball Committee announced seven of eight first-round sites for the 2009 Division III Softball Championship.

•         Seven-time indoor track champion Amber James of Wheaton (Massachusetts) and five-time champion Karl Paranya of Haverford were selected as the top student-athletes in the 25-year history of the Division III Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track and Field Championships.

•         Babson postponed home and road contests in at least five sports beginning Sunday after the school’s campus in Wellesley, Massachusetts, was closed for an outbreak of illness believed to be caused by the norovirus.

•         The new Students of Today are Referees of Tomorrow (START) program – sponsored in part by three Division III conferences – produced referees who now are registered to officiate five high school sports in Pennsylvania.
