Wooster recently announced plans to add women’s golf as a varsity sport for the 2010-11 academic year.

“We’re very excited to announce the addition of a 23rd sport, elevating our varsity sport offerings to 12 for women,” said Keith Beckett, the school’s director of athletics, physical education and recreation.

“Also, Wooster will be the fifth women’s golf team in the North Coast Athletic Conference and consequently we’re hopeful that the sport will now conduct an official conference championship.”

Wooster joins NCAC members Allegheny, Denison, Hiram and Wittenberg in sponsoring the sport.

Current Wooster men’s golf coach Rich Danch will serve as acting women’s coach as the program recruits its first varsity squad. The team’s home course will be announced.
