Division III rewind

Following is a summary of Division III news from the week of September 28-October 2.

  • Ed Sherman, the Muskingum football coach and athletics director who was an instrumental figure during the early 1970s in the NCAA reorganization that created Division III, died September 29.
  • Registration is open for the 2010 NCAA Convention  that runs from Wednesday, January 13, through Saturday, January 16, at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta and the Atlanta Marriott Marquis (the Marriott will be the site of Division III sessions).
  • Colorado College’s Horst Richardson  became the fourth Division III coach and ninth in any NCAA division to win 500 games in men’s soccer.
  • Alumni and friends have made gifts and pledges totaling nearly $290,000 to establish a fund honoring retired Guilford  baseball coach Stuart T. Maynard.
  • The All-American Football Foundation is honoring Zak Ivkovic  of the City University of New York Athletic Conference with its Asa S. Bushnell Outstanding Commissioner Award.
