Division III rewind

Following is a summary of Division III news from the week of September 14-18.

  • Rensselaer President Shirley Ann Jackson remembered 1964 graduate Myles Brand as a “loyal son and devoted friend” who “strongly supported” the school.
  • Amy Huchthausen, a member of the NCAA Academic and Membership Affairs staff since 2006, has been named Division III governance liaison.
  • Rochester’s Terry Gurnett became only the third coach in any NCAA division to win 400 games in women’s soccer.
  • Student-athletes from Emory, Fredonia State and Kenyon are among the nine finalists for the NCAA Woman of the Year award, which will be presented October 18.
  • A program sponsored in part by four Division III conferences that encourages college students to become referees is expanding through middle Atlantic states as it begins its second year.
  • Wisconsin-Whitewater honored longtime baseball coach James B. Miller this month by renaming its ballpark in his honor.
