DIII presidents elect four to Council service

Three more members of Division III’s Presidents and Chancellors Advisory Group, as well as a fourth president with extensive experience in the division’s governance structure, have been elected to four-year terms on the Division III Presidents Council.

The new members are:

  • Brian Levin-Stankevich, chancellor at Wisconsin-Eau Claire. The historian has held teaching and administrative positions at Buffalo, Florida Atlantic and Eastern Washington, where he served for a year as interim president before assuming his current post in 2006. Holding a bachelor’s degree from Hamilton and master’s and doctoral degrees from Buffalo, Levin-Stankevich was a Fulbright Scholar in what was then the Soviet Union in 1977.
  • Jack Ohle, president of Gustavus Adolphus. He served as president for 10 years at Wartburg before accepting his current post in 2008. Ohle also a former vice president for advancement at Nebraska Wesleyan and more recently served in that role at Drake, where he also served as senior vice president for external affairs and secretary to the university. The Ohio Northern graduate holds a master’s degree in higher education administration from Bowling Green and did graduate work toward a master of divinity degree at Hamma School of Theology.
  • Frederik Ohles, president of Nebraska Wesleyan. He served on history faculties and held administrative positions at St. Olaf and Illinois College, and also served as vice president for advancement and later senior vice president of the Council of Independent Colleges. Ohles was named Nebraska Wesleyan’s 16th president in 2007. The Carleton graduate holds a doctorate in comparative history from Brandeis.
  • Rosalind Reichard, president of Emory and Henry. She served as vice president for academic affairs and then senior vice president at Meredith before assuming her current post in 2006. She also has been dean of science and mathematics at Elon. Reichard is a Binghamton graduate who holds master’s and doctoral degrees from Michigan State.

Presidents Council members are elected in balloting open to all presidents and chancellors at Division III member institutions.

Levin-Stankevich, Ohles and Reichard previously have served as conference representatives on the Presidents and Chancellors Advisory Group, which was established as broaden presidential participation in the division’s governance. Ohle has been involved in the division’s governance during the past four years as a member of the Division III Management Council. The four will join the Presidents Council at its April meeting.

The 15-member Presidents Council is Division III’s primary governance body, overseeing the Division III Management Council and the division’s committee structure.

The Council will be chaired beginning in April by James Harris, president at Widener. Harris succeds Christopher Newport President Paul S. Trible, whose term on the Council is ending. The Council’s vice chair will be Hope President James Bultman.
