Lynn Oberbillig, director of athletics at Smith, will serve a second one-year term during 2010 as chair of the Division III Management Council.

Oberbillig, who began service as chair following the 2009 Convention, was re-elected to the position by Council members, who also elected Chris Martin, commissioner of the
College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, as vice chair.

Martin will succeed the current vice chair, Dan Fulks, faculty athletics representative at Transylvania, who will continue to serve as a Council member through the 2011 Convention. Under Council policy, Fulks was ineligible to serve a second term in the post because the chair’s and vice chair’s terms as Council members cannot end in the same year.

Martin will succeed Fulks following the 2010 Convention.

Oberbillig has directed Smith’s athletics programs since 1993 and also teaches in the college’s exercise and sport studies department. A former softball student-athlete at Iowa, Oberbillig also is a former head softball coach at Nicholls State, where her teams won more than 300 games.

She is a former chair of the NCAA Softball Rules Committee and served as the first chair of the Division III Women’s Rowing Committee.

Martin, who currently is in his first year of service as a Council member, became the CCIW’s first full-time commissioner in 2002 after serving on the NCAA membership services staff as Division III governance liaison.

He currently is president the Division III Commissioners Association and is a former member of the Division III Membership Committee.
