DePauw’s Bill Fenlon claimed his 400th coaching victory in men’s basketball Saturday, becoming the first to do so out of three coaches who entered the season on the cusp of reaching the milestone.

Fenlon, who has collected 293 of those 400 wins during 18 seasons at DePauw, now ranks 28th among active Division III men’s coaches in victories. He also has coached at Sewanee, Rose-Hulman and Southwestern (Texas).

He entered the season within hailing distance of the milestone along with Springfield’s Charlie Brock and Moravian’s Jim Walker, each of whom are now are three wins away from the mark. Springfield is 2-5 so far this season and Moravian is 1-6.

DePauw is 5-1 this season under Fenlon, suffering its first loss Sunday at Birmingham-Southern after Saturday’s win at Rhodes.

Brock, in his 12th season at Springfield, also has coached at Drew, Gustavus Adolphus and Trinity (Texas) in a career spanning 30 years. Walker is in his 31st season at Moravian, where he also coached men’s tennis until last spring.
