Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Commissioner Butch Raymond has been elected vice chair of the Division II Management Council.

Raymond succeeds Mars Hill Athletics Director Dave Riggins and will begin his one-year term in that role September 1.

As vice chair, Raymond also will serve on the Division II Administrative Committee and the Division II Planning and Finance Committee. Because of a recent change, the Council vice chair no longer chairs the Division II Championships Committee but rather serves as an ex officio member.

Raymond is in his fifth year as the fourth full-time commissioner of the NSIC. The former chair of the Division II Men’s Basketball Committee came to the NSIC from Southwest Minnesota State, where he served as director of athletics and associate director of development since 1997.

Before that, Raymond was all-time winningest men’s basketball coach in St. Cloud State history (231-141). He led his team to the North Central Conference championship in 1986, 1987 and 1988. He was inducted into the St. Cloud State Athletics Hall of Fame in 2005.

Raymond also served as men’s basketball coach and coordinator of intercollegiate athletics at Minnesota State Mankato. He coached the basketball team from 1973-84, earning one North Central Conference and one Northern Intercollegiate Conference title.

A graduate of Augsburg, Raymond served as men’s basketball coach and assistant professor there from 1969-73. Raymond earned his master’s degree from Minnesota State Mankato.
