Northern State men’s basketball coach Don Meyer won his 902nd career game to tie Bob Knight for most career wins by an NCAA men’s coach. The historic feat was accomplished January 3 in the Wolves’ 63-58 victory at Upper Iowa.

Meyer and Knight are the only two coaches in NCAA men’s basketball history to reach the 900-win plateau.

Northern State led by as many as 17 points in the first half and held on for a five-point victory in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference basketball game. The Wolves are 11-2 and 4-2 in league play.

Meyer, 902-301 in 36 years of coaching, has a chance to break the record when the Wolves host the University of Mary in Aberdeen, South Dakota, January 10.

The Northern State basketball coach was involved in a serious traffic accident September 5, which eventually resulted in his left leg being amputated below the knee. Doctors also found a slow-developing cancer in his liver and small intestine during his eight-week stay in a Sioux Falls, South Dakota, hospital.
