Lynn University student-athletes hosted a party for their oldest fan’s 104th birthday February 10. The Fighting Knights met Maurice two years ago when they began hosting Bingo Night once a month for the residents at a nearby retirement center.

“We actually just found out that he was over 100, because he doesn’t look it,” said Danny Rouah, senior baseball student-athlete. “So, we figured he deserved a big birthday bash.”

The event included Lynn Student-Athlete Advisory Committee members and more than 50 of the retirement center residents. Providing decorations, birthday cakes and 104 balloons, the students serenaded Maurice before he blew out the candles.

“He might be our biggest fan, but we are his biggest fans as well,” said senior golfer Megan Mangone.

Maurice recently made his first trip to Lynn’s campus to watch a basketball game in January as part of the athletic department’s second annual Family Fun Day community-engagement event. The student-athletes transported 10 of the residents to campus for the festivities.

“I am so proud of our students in the way that they have embraced this whole community,” said Sara Quatrocky, Lynn’s director of student-athlete services and the athletics department’s senior woman administrator. “The residents love having us visit and in return they have given our student-athletes many priceless memories through community outreach. It’s a great partnership.”
