The second annual Georgian Court University “Go to Bat for Breast Cancer” softball tournament will be played Saturday and Sunday at the Lakewood, New Jersey, campus.

The goal of the event, which has increased from six to nine teams in 2009, is to raise awareness and support women in their fight against breast cancer. All proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society.

This year’s tournament features Georgian Court,NYIT, Bridgeport, Dowling, Caldwell, Dominican (New York), Queens (New York), Molloy and Kutztown. Nine games will be staged on two fields each day.

“When you think about the values we instill into our student-athletes at Georgian Court, this weekend is a prime example of how important life is to us,” said Georgian Court head coach Jeff Franquet.  “We are doing our best to reach out to our community with open arms and big hearts.”
