Following is a summary of Division II news for the week of February 9-13.

The Division II Championships Committee adopted a contingency plan for this year’s winter- and spring-sport championships that would introduce “subregionals” in cases where it would be fiscally prudent and beneficial to the student-athlete experience to do so. Sport committees would divide an eight-team regional into two four-team subregionals in cases where all teams selected for a particular regional would have to fly to the host site. The committee will review the policy after the spring championships have concluded to see if the contingency plan should be implemented for future years. The contingency plan was part of the Championships Committee’s larger discussion at its February meeting to analyze better business practices for championships administration.

William Jewell College has announced plans to pursue a change in affiliation from the Heart of America Athletic Conference of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics to Division II’s Great Lakes Valley Conference.

The East Coast Conference staged its eighth annual Senior Female Athlete Brunch February 8 to celebrate women in athletics. The event, sponsored by the league’s Senior Woman Administrators Council, is held in conjunction with National Girls and Women in Sports Day.
