The NCAA News

Following is a summary of Division II news for the week of January 26-30.

Division II conferences have been busy reconfiguring their membership. The South Atlantic Conference announced it will add Anderson (South Carolina) in July 2010, while the Peach Belt Conference said it plans to add Montevallo and Flagler beginning with the 2009-10 academic year.

Speaking of adding, North Georgia announced it will add men’s and women’s golf this fall.

In an unusual twist of fate, the women’s basketball teams from Queens (North Carolina) and Belmont Abbey played on the same day legendary North Carolina State coach Kay Yow died of cancer. Belmont Abbey is coached by Yow’s sister, Susan, while former North Carolina State player Trudi Lacey – who played for Kay Yow – leads Queens.

West Florida has begun a strategic review of its athletics program, and school officials say that everything – including divisional membership, conference alignment and sport sponsorship – is on the table.
