Division II rewind

Following is a summary of Division II news from the week of July 6-10.

  • The Division II Football Championship final will return to Florence, Alabama, in 2010 and 2011. The Shoals National Championship Committee and the University of North Alabama will host the games in 14,500-seat Braly Municipal Stadium. The SNCC has served as sponsoring agency for the game since 1986.
  • The Division II Women’s Basketball Committee is considering a longer cycle for awarding future Elite Eight sites.
  • The University of Puerto Rico, Cayey, will withdraw its Division II membership.
  • Former Florida Southern Athletics Director Lois Webb, who retired in 2008, has been named interim commissioner of the Sunshine State Conference. Webb will oversee the operation of the SSC office until a new full-time commissioner is hired.  A search is underway to replace Mike Marcil, who left to become vice president of development at Creighton Prep High School in Omaha, Nebraska.
