Following is a summary of Division II news from the week of June 8-12:

As Division II continues its Life in the Balance initiative, leaders are beginning to discuss some of the ramifications of proposed cutbacks, such as how a reduction in the number of officials for various sports would affect the quality of the games. At first blush, it would appear there is little appetite to change gears – at least in football and basketball.

Another philosophical discussion underway in Division II is whether the prong of the distribution formula for enhancement funds that is based on success in the men’s and women’s basketball tournaments aligns with the division’s strategic-positioning platform.

South Carolina Aiken has enjoyed a successful year in athletics but has had to endure a couple of unfortunate occurrences to student-athletes. Joe Person of The State (Columbia, South Carolina) newspaper offers a touching insight.

The Peach Belt Conference has a couple of new cross country programs on the way.
