The NCAA News

Following is a summary of Division II news from the week of May 26-29.

  • Division II leaders are discussing the impact that the “Life in the Balance” initiative will have on the division and on student-athlete well-being. The project includes a review of Bylaw 17 and a search for better business practices. Presidents Council Chair Stephen Jordan of Metropolitan State and Management Council Chair Tim Selgo, the athletics director at Grand Valley State, share their thoughts in a video that explains why the initiative is so important – and timely – for Division II.
  • Selgo also offered thoughts in an NCAA News Q&A in which he called for Division II athletics administrators to resist the perception that trimming seasons and contests would somehow diminish the high level of athletics competition in the division.
  • Division II’s strategic-positioning platform has been a benchmark document for the division’s branding and identity campaign, and now it is available in Spanish. The translation is offered for the Spanish-serving institutions in Puerto Rico as well as other in the continental U.S.
  • The Memorial Day weekend was a big one for Division II championships. See results for men’s golf, softball, men’s track, women’s track and men’s lacrosse.
