Division II rewind

Following is a summary of Division II news for the week of October 12-16.

  • The Division II Championships Committee has chosen Louisville as the site and Bellarmine University as the host for the 2010 National Championships Festival for fall sports. The event will be November 30 through December 4, when champions in six sports will be crowned.
  • The new Division II Membership Report is now available online. The annual report includes interactive features that highlight Division II’s strategic initiatives and provide conference information.
  • Great Lakes Valley Conference Commissioner Jim Naumovich has been elected to serve as president of the Division II Conference Commissioners Association. Naumovich was elected to complete the presidential term vacated by Mike Marcil, former commissioner of the Sunshine State Conference. Naumovich will serve through the end of the 2009-10 academic year.
  • The Division II Management Council will take positions on the three proposals submitted from the membership for the 2010 Convention at its meeting next week.
  • The Division II Academic Requirements Committee wants legislation for the 2011 Convention that would make it more difficult for student-athletes who have been suspended from their teams to transfer to another school and be immediately eligible.
