The NCAA News

Following is a summary of Division II news from the week of April 6-10.

  • Legislative Council Chair Ann Martin from Regis (Colorado) might not have known she would be thrust into such an important role when she dove in to Division II governance work a couple of years ago, but now as head of a group charged with leading Division II’s discussion about playing and practice seasons, Martin has her strategic-thinking cap on.
  • Kutztown made a difficult decision based on the economic climate to discontinue men’s swimming and men’s soccer as varsity sports.
  • Division II student-athletes from Coker participated in a unique sale of sorts when they were “auctioned” off for a Make-A-Wish fund-raiser. It was another in a series of innovative community-engagement outreach efforts that Division II schools do so well.
  • Mount Olive senior softball student-athlete Katherine Cahoon said she’ll always remember April 5 as the day she got three hits in a doubleheader against Chowan. Oh yeah, she also got a proposal from her boyfriend.
