The Division II Presidents Council will review the Life in the Balance package one more time and take positions on the three proposals from the membership for the 2010 Convention at the group’s meeting Thursday in Indianapolis.

The Council, which charged the Division II governance structure with reviewing playing and practice season policies to ensure they align with the division’s strategic-positioning platform, have backed a four-proposal package that streamlines seasons and reduces contest in 10 sports.

While the package headed to the Convention culminates months of review and debate, it represents only the first phase of the comprehensive overview of Division II athletics policies and procedures. The presidents have promised another phase targeting the 2011 Convention that addresses the nonchampionship segment and what some regard as a proliferation of exempted contests in some sports.

The presidents also will hear a report from the Division II Management Council regarding actions that group took at its recent meeting. Members also will elect a new chair for 2010 to replace outgoing chair Stephen Jordan of Metropolitan State.

Time permitting, Jordan and Molloy President Drew Bogner will lead an open forum in which Council members will discuss the economic environment for Division II athletics and a strategic growth plan for Division II membership.
