Texas A&M University-Commerce senior guard Britney Jordan scored a Lone Star Conference women’s record of 53 points in a 104-95 loss to Abilene Christian January 3.

Only eight players have scored more points in a single game in Division II women’s basketball history. Fort Valley State’s Jackie Givens poured in 67 against Knoxville College in 1991. Givens in fact topped the 50-point mark four times in her career. More recently, Cassie King of North Carolina Central scored 59 against Bowie State in March 2005.

Jordan finished 21-of-39 from the floor – all two-pointers – and added six rebounds, six assists and three steals. The 53 points tops the Lone Star record of 49 set by Tarleton State’s Rachelle Bowen in 1996, and breaks the program record of 43 set Meshell Graham and Jordan. The 21 field goals and 39 attempts are also LSC and Texas A&M-Commerce records.

“I kept seeing gaps,” said Jordan of her scoring opportunities. “It also helps when you’ve got good teammates saying, ‘Keep going, keep shooting.’ ”

Jordan teammate Genevieve Campbell drained two three-pointers, including one after she was fouled to pull off a four point play, to help the Lions pull within five with 9:51 to go. But the Wildcats answered.

“It was one of those games where we weren’t able to pull it off,” said Jordan. “We’ve got to have a short memory about this one.”

Audrey Maxwell-Lively paced the Wildcats with 28 points and 11 rebounds. Texas A&M-Commerce is now 7-3 overall, while Abilene Christian improved to 7-4.
