Bearcats tennis coach records milestone win

Northwest Missouri State head men’s and women’s tennis coach Mark Rosewell reached the 800-win plateau April 3 as his Bearcat teams combined to win three matches against Mid-American Intercollegiate Athletics Association competition.

The 800th win came with a 6-1 decision by the Northwest Missouri State men against Emporia State. It was the fifth straight win for the 28th-ranked Bearcats (10-3), who improved to 3-0 in conference play.

The Northwest Missouri State women (10-2) beat Fort Hays State, 5-0, in an early afternoon match before defeating Emporia State, 7-2, in Friday’s finale. The Bearcat women improved to 6-0 in MIAA action and have won 13 consecutive conference matches dating back to last season.

Rosewell is now 801-376 (.681) is in his 25th season at Northwest Missouri Sate and 27th as a collegiate head coach. He is 415-160 (.722) in 25 seasons as head coach of the Northwest Missouri State women’s team and 364-192 (.655) as head coach of the men.

Rosewell has made 14 consecutive NCAA Division II tournament appearances with the Bearcat women and made 11 total appearances with the Bearcat men. Northwest Missouri State tennis teams have won a combined 16 MIAA championships under Rosewell, who has been named the league’s coach of the year 18 times.
